National Historic Site Dedication – Coming this Spring!
We are proud to announce that our VFW Post location will added to the National Register of Historic Places, the United States Government’s official list of districts, sites, buildings, structures and objects that are deemed worthy of preservation because of their historical significance.
Due to our property’s location along the Boynton Bicycle Railroad in the 1880s and 1890s, it played a strategic role in developing East Patchogue’s Monorail. Though railroads had been commonly used for almost 60 years, the East Patchogue Monorail was laid in a unique manner that would allow trains to run at an unheard-of speed of 60 miles per hour. The rail was envisioned to connect Bellport and Port Jefferson.
